What is ownCloud?
ownCloud provides universal access to your files via the web, your computer or your mobile devices — wherever you are.
It also provides a platform to easily view & sync your contacts, calendars and bookmarks across all your devices and enables basic editing right on the web.
ownCloud can be installed in a matter of minutes and requires very little terminal work.
First: Log into your server with SSH, (ssh [email protected]) then enter your password.

Adding Release Keys & Making ownCloud Available To Download
The first step in the installation process is adding the ownCloud release keys to Ubuntu.
sudo apt-key add - < Release.key
echo 'deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/isv:ownCloud:community/xUbuntu_12.04/ /' | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/owncloud.list
Now that we’ve made ownCloud available to install via APT we can simply update our Ubuntu install and run the installer.
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install owncloud
That’s it, now let’s set it up.
Now all you have to do is visit http://YOUR.IP/owncloud – this is the default location of all ownCloud installs.
You’ll see the following page, simply choose an admin username and password, (if you need a strong password try http://strongpasswordgenerator.com)
Once you log in you’ll be presented with links to download the desktop sync apps. These allow you to sync folders on your computer with your ownCloud server, anything you put in your synced folder will upload to the server, similarly anything you upload to the server will be synced back to your computer.
Important! Should you ever forget your password you need to set up an email account in order to restore access to your ownCloud install. To do this simply go to ‘Username’ > Personal at the top right of the screen.
Then add an email address you have access to in the appropriate field.
